Welcome to North Somerset

North Somerset is home to the main towns of Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead, Weston-super-Mare as well as miles of glorious countryside and breathtaking coastline. One of the area's major strengths is its accessibility including the M5 corridor, rail links to London and other major cities across the UK, Bristol International Airport and the Port.

Bristol International Airport

Bristol International Airport is located just 14 miles to the east of Weston-super-Mare and offers direct flights to over 100 destinations in the UK, Europe and the US, including London, New York, Paris and Madrid.

Bristol Port

Bristol Port is one of the world's most technically advanced ports and comprises two docks, the Royal Portbury Dock situated in North Somerset and the Avonmouth Dock located in the Bristol area. Both docks have their own motorway junctions on the M5 and are located close to the M4 interchange. Bristol Port is the fastest growing deep water port in the UK and benefits from excellent road and rail links. The Port can handle much larger ships than its competitors in the South of England and has plans to create a new deep water container terminal able to service even future generations of ultra large container ships.

Business Site Developments

Weston-super-Mare is undergoing a period of rejuvenation with a number of schemes and initiatives underway. For more information visit the North Somerset Council website.

Locking Parklands in Weston-super-Mare, situated close to J21 of the M5, will provide 25 hectares of high-quality business accommodation and up to 1,800 new homes. Led by SWRDA and English Partnerships, the scheme will transform the former RAF Locking site into a new hi-tech business, residential and leisure community.

Nearby, Weston Park and Weston Gateway will provide over 200 hectares for sustainable mixed use developments including dedicated office parks, industrial zones and Incubation Centre as well as high quality residential development, community facilities, leisure facilities and open space close to the existing urban area and critical transport links.

A major business development is proposed for Clevedon adjacent to the current Clevedon 5/20 development. This 8 hectare site on Kenn Road is to be developed for employment use (B1, B2 and B8 type usage) by Rok Development. The site is close to junction 20 of the M5 Motorway and existing businesses nearby include BOC, Comet, Gordano Packaging and Palm Equipment.

Portishead, situated just off junction 19 of the M5, has grown in recent years through a mixture of residential and commercial development. A number of recent office developments including Portishead Office Park, Gordano Gate and Portisfields have further established Portishead as a business location approximately 10 miles from Bristol City Centre. Kestrel Court, provides managed workspace consisting of flexible office and studio/workshop space.

Nailsea is located approximately 10 miles from Bristol and is conveniently placed for access to Bristol International Airport. Existing businesses in Nailsea include Vecto Gray and Brabantia.

Around a third of the population in North Somerset lives outside the four main towns. Small employment sites are located throughout the rural area of the district. For example office developments located in Ham Green, Long Ashton , Flax Bourton, Tickenham and Hewish provide business accommodation set in rural surroundings and within 5-8 miles of Bristol city centre.

Lifestyle

As well as being a great location for business, North Somerset is also an excellent place to live with stunning countryside, popular events, venues, and beautiful coastline. Two thirds of the area is classified as greenbelt or an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Mendip Hills provide a spectacular backdrop.
