Weston super Mare - A Seafront Resort

North Somerset is home to the seaside resort Weston-super-Mare, coastal towns Clevedon and Portishead, and miles of glorious countryside and breathtaking coastline. One of the area's strengths is its accessibility thanks to the M5 corridor, the Bristol International Airport and the Port.

Bristol International Airport is located just 14 miles to the east of Weston-super-Mare and there are direct flights to over 100 destinations in the UK, Europe and the US, including London, New York, Paris and Madrid. Bristol Airport has experienced rapid growth over the past five years, including the introduction of a daily Continental flight to New York, and is now the 9th largest airport in the UK currently handling 5.5m passenger movements each year. The Airport Master Plan envisages handling 9m passengers per year by 2015 and further developments of the terminal facilities have been proposed to meet the anticipated growth.

Bristol Port is one of the world's most technically advanced ports and comprises two docks, the Royal Portbury Dock situated in North Somerset and the Avonmouth Dock located in the Bristol area. Bristol Port is the fastest growing deep water port in the UK and benefits from excellent road and rail links. The Port can handle much larger ships than its competitors in the South of England and has plans to create a new deep water container terminal able to service even future generations of ultra large container ships.

North Somerset welcomes more than 5.3m visitors each year attracted by its stunning countryside, popular events venues, and beautiful coastline. Two thirds of the area is classified as greenbelt or an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Mendip Hills provide a spectacular backdrop.

North Somerset also benefits from a broad industrial base which includes businesses within the defence, engineering, food processing, printing, agricultural and tourism. Major regeneration and development projects are already in the pipeline, including new high-quality business accommodation in Locking Parklands and Weston Airfield, a new green heart and proposals for the Tropicana site leisure complex in Weston, and a new marina at Portishead.
